Last week, Felix volunteers set up a gazebo at The Foodies Festival. It was a wonderful opportunity to raise awareness and recruit new volunteers to help our work saving good food from being wasted.
The atmosphere was great. Cooking demos, live music, artisan producers, competitions and lots of people who were interested in The Felix Project. The display of rescued food on our stall and tasty banana bread made from bananas that would have been thrown away.
VOLUNTEERS OF ALL AGES ARE ENTHUSIASTIC ABOUT SAVING FOOD
Lots of different people came to our stall for a chat. Our youngest visitor had fun counting out fruit from the crate of surplus food. We hope he’ll remember to sign up as a volunteer when he’s 16! Another visitor told us her father had recently retired and was already volunteering for us, which had helped to give him a sense of purpose after leaving full-time work. We’re delighted to welcome volunteers of all ages and backgrounds. Our volunteer team is a wonderful mix of people.
BOOSTING VOLUNTEER NUMBERS GETS MORE GOOD FOOD TO GOOD CAUSES
Attending the Foodies Festival was a definite success. 50 people signed up for more details about volunteering at The Felix Project, thanks to the enthusiasm of our volunteers. There’s no better way to hear what it’s like to volunteer than by talking to our volunteer drivers, co-drivers, warehouse assistants, walkers, cyclists and admin support. With new volunteers to boost our existing volunteer numbers, we will be able to rescue more good food for good causes.
Caroline, who started volunteering as a driver now volunteers as our event manager. She's lined up a series of events over the Summer. When you see our lovely green gazebo, please come along and say hello.
DAYLESFORD SUMMER FESTIVAL
We are delighted to be at Daylesford's Summer Festival on Saturday 8th June. The organic farm in Gloucestershire opens its gates for a Summer of Love themed festival, with a producers market, dog show, cooking competitions and activities and fun for all the family. Daylesford are one of the very first retailers to join The Felix Project's fight against food waste with regular supplies of surplus food. We’ll be flying the flag for Felix at the festival and show our appreciation for the invaluable contribution Daylesford make to us.
Hanwell Carnival
This year, Hanwell Carnival is on Saturday 15th June. London's oldest carnival is an opportunity to enjoy local bands, a dog show and stalls, and meet some wonderful Felix volunteers. Look out for our stall to find out more about our cost-effective and simple solution to help reduce food waste, while helping those struggling with poverty in London.
We're also Greenford Carnival on 7th July, Ealing Beer Festival on 10th-13th July and Brentford Festival on 1st September. Bring on the Summer!
